MICHAEL ZIZZA

To E-mail Mike:

Mike Zizza, keyboardist and vocalist of Pink Voyd started taking piano lessons at 8 years of age from the nuns at St. Patrick’s school in Stoneham, Ma. Initially, progress was slow since he did not have a piano at the time. This situation was rectified two years later when his parents finally broke down and bought him a piano. He immersed himself in classical music, banging his way through Beethoven, Chopin and Scott Joplin. His first entry into the music scene was at age 16 as an accompanist with the Stoneham High School Chorale performing in such cities as Montreal, New Jersey and Washington DC. Other credits included the musical productions Oklahoma, Babes In Arms and Guys and Dolls. While in college at UMASS/Amherst, he acquired his first electri\onic keyboard, a Fender Rhodes Stage Piano and between music theory and performance classes was now getting paid performing with off-broadway productions of Godspell, A Chorus Line and Ain’t Misbehavin’. At age 25, he joined a rock band where for the first time he was actually performing on stage instead of in the orchestra pit. Rumor has it he never went back into the pit. Ziz became a fixture on the southern New Hampshire scene playing in a variety of clubs.

Ziz tends not to be one of those quiet keyboard cats satisfied playing chords in the background. This can be traced back to his musical background in theatre. When production costs dictated an orchestra could not be hired, more often than not, he had to learn to be many instruments at once. This experience prepared him for the stylistic, programming and production demands of today’s modern keyboardist and continues to benefit Pink Voyd at every performance.
